Getting in Touch Without Paying a Penny
Written by Adam Singleton

In the hectic world we live in, it's a wonder we find the time to keep in touch with anyone. But luckily thanks to the advent of the internet, we have lots of options when it comes to contacting other people.

Email is a hugely popular way to send a message to someone, but instant messaging is arguably even better as it enables you to have a proper conversation in real time. Yet nothing beats being able to hear the other person's voice - it makes for a closer connection and it also means you don't need to rely on your computer.

Home telephone calls are a lot cheaper than they used to be, and most companies now provide some calls free of charge. If you take the time to shop around and find the best deal that applies to you and your situation, it's possible to save a lot of money every month. Free calls only tend to apply to phoning people in the same country as you however - and they are sometimes restricted to local calls as well.

While internet phones are still a fairly new phenomenon, they can be the best way to make free calls to family members and friends living abroad. Although this relies on both people having access to a computer and also using the same internet telephone service, you can talk for hours without paying a penny.

But many more people like to be able to make calls while they're on the move, which means looking for a different kind of deal altogether. Making free calls on a mobile phone might sound like a dream come true, but thanks to companies like Skype, it is becoming a reality.

To get the best from this kind of service it helps to have lots of other family members and friends who all use the same system as well, as this is where you will save the most money. Most mobile providers offer packages that allow you to send a certain number of texts every month for free, but if you choose one of the main internet providers of mobile services, you'll be able to text other people using the same system as many times as you like - and it won't cost you anything at all. Happily the same applies to phone calls.

The advantages of this kind of service are obvious. Up until now, anyone who took advantage of being able to call people for free from their computer still had to rely on another provider to be able to call or text people when they were out and about. But these companies are now expanding their services and making it possible to enjoy many of the same features you'd receive on your computer via a mobile as well.

So if you're looking for a better mobile deal, now might be the best time to switch.
