Historical Background

On May 5, 1914 the Corfu Protocol, written by the International Control Committee (England, France, Germany, Austria, Russia and Italy), was unconditionally accepted by the government of Albania. In this document, Epirus is declared an Autonomous Area, within the Albanian state. Typical of Albanian diplomatic history, the Protocol was never put into effect.

Later "back room" diplomacy such as the secret London Agreement of 1915 used Epirus as a bargaining piece, traded back and forth between the Great Powers. During this time, the Epiroteans suffered cruel persecutions at the hand of the Albanian government. The closing of schools teaching in any language other than Albanian, closing all ethnic and cultural agencies and even forcing the creation of a self-governing Albanian Orthodox Church, controlled by the Moslem state. Albania's stated goal during those dark years, was to completely obliterate all ethnic, religious and cultural diversity.

It is fallen to us to be the voice of an oppressed people. Just recently, KLA troops and KLA trained terrorists have been mobilized against Northern Epirus to perform an ethnic cleansing, the elimination of all non-Albanian Epiroteans! As outrageous as it seems, nothing has been done to counter this. Epiroteans are still suffering. The UN has done nothing which can trouble the Albanians. Orthodox church officials, ALL have been slaughtered and it was so successful for the Albanians that there is no way, the church can be reestablished again. Orthodox clergymen are denied entry into Epirus by the Albanian Government yet the Muslim and Catholic clergymen can freely come in and out of Albania.

How is it that we do not hear of this in the news? Maybe because what they, the media, want is something big. And yet people are dying! Do they not understand that the media is needed to call attention of the masses. Attention has to be brought into Northern Epirus and this violation must be stopped. We must move now. When are we going to move? When all non-albanians in Epirus have been eliminated. When the KLA completely eradicates Epirus of all traces of the non-Albanians? The UN must act. They must intervene. The Epirotean Government of Exile must be restored and Epirotean independence must be achieved. People are dying as we speak, but you can do something about it. Inform everyone you know in this matter. We must bring attention to what is really happening. So I call for your support for Epirotean independence. Help now and save lives.
