The progress of a city is often earmarked by the extent of industrial developments. When a city gets industrially equipped, a sudden upsurge of works partaking to development of area's retail property becomes inevitable. The expanse of activities may correspond to buying selling and construction of residencies, hotels, shopping malls and other holiday hangouts.

The whole process of real estate development is complex and entails enormous planning. Two foremost important factors to be borne in mind are ‘budget' and design ‘aesthetic'. Irrespective of the fact that your contribution as a realtor would help in a great way to the city's urbanization, the local authorities of the city expect you to have respect for the city's heritage. While making the blueprint for the project there are a plethora of factors that need to be considered like the ecological effect of your plan, traffic rules of the city, and more.

One of the most important areas that require attention during the retail planning process is slums. Slum development is a crucial area of town planning process. With the rapid urbanization there has been an increase of slums which indirectly retard the real estate development process. The slum dwellers have to be promised separate residencies, schools and community centers in exchange of lands being occupied by them.

When it comes to development of a city, one can not overlook the aspect of city transport. In an urban environment, the population density makes it practically impossible to have a healthy transport system without loads of traffic. For instance a shopping mall in the midst of a congested locality should have a parking space as a prerequisite. Else, though the shopping mall would attract ample number of visitors, but its counter effect on the city traffic may be detrimental to the urban dwellers.

A town planner is a professional who advices about effectively utilizing each piece of land, formulates management strategies about town development. They analyze economic, environmental as well as social factors and come up with the best piece of advice for smooth execution of the process
