When money is tight it may seem as though there's no way to give yourself some wiggle room when it comes to your finances, but there are options open to you that could make saving easier. Making sure your money goes as far as it can is a great way to economise, but isn't always the easiest task to complete. If you're trying to stretch your funds in the hope of being able to save a little then you'll be glad to know that there are a range of money-saving options and schemes open to you that could help put a little more cash in your pocket.
When every penny counts, the last thing you want to do is waste any on unsatisfactory goods. If you receive products or services that aren't up to scratch then make sure you complain and ask for a refund if you're entitled to one. Another way to make sure that no money is slipping through the cracks is to keep a close eye on your bank statements. If you can't balance yours then there's a chance you're leaking money without even realising it. In the same vein, creating a spreadsheet on your PC that helps you keep track of what you're spending can be very useful in determining where you're wasting money and where you can cut back.
A good way to get a little back from your spending is to have a good look at your credit cards. First of all you want to make sure that you're not paying too much interest on any debt you have on your card. If you are you could think about changing provider and taking advantage of a balance transfer that could see you paying no interest on your balance for a fixed period of time.
On the other hand, if you use your card to make regular purchases you could find that the best way to economise is to think about a rewards points card. With cards like this you can earn rewards points on everything you spend and these points can be swapped for vouchers and goods. This means that you are being rewarded for spending money that you would have spent anyway, so can be a good way to make your money go that little bit further.
While some cards will offer tempting deals, they often do this by sacrificing other benefits. Before signing up for a card with a great rewards scheme make sure you check the things you would with a normal credit card - such as a low interest rate and a low APR - to make sure you're getting the best deal possible.
By revamping the products you use you could improve your finances in a few easy steps, so have a look at your spending habits and see if you'd be better switching them up.
