Reading is a skill without which no one can make much of his or her life, therefore it is important to encourage your child to become a fluent reader who really likes reading. One way to do this is to read to your young child frequently. Exploring the many wonderful pictures available in picture books, then reading the text out loud will help to imbue a sense of wonder into the child so that they will want to continue the activity for themselves. While it is good for the child to own books, if your budget is tight you can get an endless supply from the library. Make going to the library a treat to be enjoyed and make use of all the reading related activities they have for children. When a child becomes familiar with books by seeing other children reading, they will want to do the same thing. If your child's reading skills are not strong, then be sure to take advantage of those high interest- low vocabulary books that are easy to read. Once they find an author or series they like, be sure they can get more of the same. This will keep up their interest. If your child has other strong interests such as sport, then choosing a book related to that interest would also encourage them to read. Article Source: http://www.ArticleBlast.com |
