People everywhere across the planet consume and savor tomatoes. Every American gardener has grown a tomato plant. It's not possible to calculate the quantity of varieties of tomato. The focus of this article is to present three facts lots of people do not know regarding tomatoes. 1: The initial fact many people are amazed to find out about tomatoes are that they are not vegetables. Botanically, they are really fruits. All of us really treat them as vegetables only when cooking. From a botanical perspective, tomatoes are fruits as they are the ovary of a flowering plant. There are some groups who refer to it as a berry. Perhaps we could call it a tomatoberry! 2: The tomato conceals one of its most beneficial attributes by consisting of the antioxidant Lycopene. Lycopene and cancer causing free-radicals don't get along. Lycopene fights them. Additionally, tomatoes are great sources of Vitamin C and Vitamin A. Eat a lot of tomatoes to help keep cancer away and maintain your vitamin A and C levels in a healthy range. 3: The tomato is often seen as the typical plant raised in gardens in the United States. While that is valid, the United States is second in production of tomatoes. The largest producer is actually China. Amazingly, there are more than 140 million tons of tomatoes produced in the world.
