A light bar, especially an LED light bar, is one of the better inventions that modern times have seen. Its light quality is better, it gives much longer service than earlier light bars that relied on halogen technology, and it is energy efficient as well. But unless these qualities are properly leveraged, the user comfort that these light bars can give will be minimal, and the investment will go waste.
Manufacturers have managed to produce light bars that are progressively smaller. As such, as far as light requirements allow, users should take care to utilize as small an LED light bar as possible. With a smaller light bar, energy requirements will be less. Energy efficiency will always make an object more economical to use. Besides, lesser power consumption will translate into less carbon emissions and this is very important in this era of exploding threats from the greenhouse gas syndrome. Too bright a light bar will always be a discomfort for other vehicles on the road causing various distractions like glare problems, moth effect etc. From this point of view also, it is always wiser to go in for a smaller LED light bar. If possible, mount the LED light bar inside the vehicle, rather than on the roof of it. When there is a large light bar on top of the vehicle, the wind resistance of the host vehicle will be more and that will reduce its fuel efficiency. A vehicle with reduced fuel efficiency is an environmental hazard, besides being a drain on one's pockets. When a new emergency vehicle like a police vehicle or ambulance is being bought and the old one is being pensioned off, it is important to shift the LED light bar of the old vehicle into the new vehicle. An LED light bar on an average has a much longer life than a motor vehicle so that the possibility is that when the host vehicle gets superannuated the light bar is likely to be in the prime of youth. Packing it off to the junkyard together with its host of ten or maybe fewer years will be a financial hazard. At the price at which an LED light bar comes, using it for just ten years will not be cost effective at all. When an emergency vehicle is parked in the middle of the road, or in other places where a vehicle is not expected to be parked, its LED light bar will have to go on blinking all throughout. At times this could be unavoidable, but a little adjustment could sometimes let the driver shift the vehicle to a place where the light could be switched off. This will, again, save power, and the parked vehicle will not create a problem for other vehicles. And a last thing to remember is to use an LED light bar, even on a moving vehicle, only when it is absolutely necessary. Sometimes the job for which the police vehicle, or ambulance, or a voluntary firefighter is going, may not be an emergency though the vehicle user's help might be necessary at the site. If so, the driver should take care not to switch on the light just because he has a right to. Then the other vehicles on the road will not be inconvenienced, energy can be saved, and the LED light bar can also be used for more years.
