Tarps - The Most Versatile Covers Ever Made |

A tarp, otherwise known as a tarpaulin, is a large sheet of strong but flexible waterproof or water resistant material. This material consists of cloth such as canvas which is coated with latex or plastic. Tarps generally have reinforced grommets on each corner and along the sides so that a rope can be attached to allow the tarp to be tied down or suspended. Tarps are very versatile shelters, and have thousands of extremely practical uses. Some of these include providing shelter from the elements, and covering constructions, fire wood, boats, lawns and gardens just to name a few. A tarp can also be used as a ground sheet or a fly when camping, or as a cover to protect your car. Tarps are often used at outdoor market stalls to provide protection from direct sunlight and rain. There are many inexpensive tarps available today which are made from loosely woven polyethylene material. These types of tarps have now become known as polytarps. Poly tarps are a great choice for short term use and are also very economical. Poly tarps are used most frequently, as they are mildew proof and tear resistant, and provide excellent cover from the rain. Everyday uses for poly tarps include canopy covers, boat covers, hay covers, gardening, painting and outside storage. Another type of tarp is the canvas tarp which is a true multipurpose cover, and is designed to last many years. Canvas tarps are breathable and allow moisture to evaporate. They are available in high-grade industrial strength and can be used as truck covers and boat covers. Lastly, there are the mesh tarps which are most commonly used to provide shade. Mesh tarps are generally used in nurseries, gardens, backyards and patios, as well as landscaping. Tarps are available in many various colors ranging in durability and thickness.
