It used to be the case that if you got invited to a party or were given a present then you would send a birthday thank you note or cards, but for some years this ceased to be a general practice. More recently, however, birthday thank you cards and other types of thank you notes seem to be making a comeback.
Nowadays gratitude is making a comeback as it is associated with many self-improvement programs and pop psychology books. If you show gratitude to someone for something they have done, or so the argument goes, that the more you express gratitude then the more you have to be grateful for. If someone has gone to the trouble of inviting you to a birthday party and you have had a really enjoyable time then it is only good manners to express that in one of the personalized birthday thank you cards that are available in many stores as well as online.
If you are the parent and someone has invited your child or children to a birthday party where they have had a fun time then it is a good idea to educate your child into expressing their gratitude. Friends can send one of the specially designed children birthday thank you cards to the person whose party they attended, telling them that they had a good time.
It is surprising how much emphasis people place on things like thank you cards because they see it as an appreciation of all their hard work. Having said that, sending the kids birthday thank you card from child to child helps to cement friendships and make the other child feel valued. Making the process an enjoyable venture is a way of instilling good habits that last into later life.
An adult birthday party are often a grown-up affair with the emphasis on good food and drink. If you have recently attended an adult birthday party and had a good time, then perhaps now is the time to express how much you enjoyed the party and the chance to celebrate with friends by sending adult birthday thank you cards. You may have been part of the surprise party to which you were invited where you saw how much work goes into keeping quiet and making the party a success.
