Mistakes of the Birds |

Have you ever watched a bird eat? It doesn't matter if it is a chicken, a seagull, or a mighty hawk. They all use the same method. A bird will search for a contrasting point in its environment and then peck at that point with the possibility that they have found food. How many times in our relationships do we sit around and when we notice a contrast or change in our environment we don't peck, but 'pick.' In order to save quarrels in your relationship, here are 2 tips that we can learn from the animal kingdom to help our relationships. 1- Birds use contrast to peck at a point. If you find yourself often in relationships looking for contrast and then attacking others when it occurs, realize that like birds you may often be unsuccessful in getting the results you want. Don't just look for differences in the relationship. What you may think is a reward may often be harm. This is what happens to seagulls with plastic rings that entrap them. 2- Coyotes when finding food will often send one member to sample the food by licking the food in question a few times, and then not devouring it, but returning to the pack to wait a while. This is to see the reaction from the food. The pack will then discover if the food is poisonous or ok to eat. Try to be more like a coyote and less like a bird in your relationship. If there are issues that need to be discussed, talk about it to express the different points of view. Back off for a while and get advice from others that you trust. Then as a ‘pack' analyze if dealing with this situation at the present moment is poisonous or ok for your relationship. Relationships are very delicate things. An attack approach may sometimes be helpful, while it may also not be. Use wisdom and experience to decide correct timing and understanding of others viewpoints before decisions are made.
