Ever since a stroboscopic lamp, which can create the visual illusion of movement or motionlessness, has been discovered, it has found use in myriad applications. It is widely used as running lights in cars and bikes, for signaling, for stage lighting, and for decorative purposes. Bright multicolored LED strobe lights with speed control have now become mandatory to enliven a dance floor.

In the beginning strobe lighting was done with halogen lights since that was the main light source available for all illumination purposes. Later, halogen was replaced by LED, thereby widening color choices and the intensity of the colors used for strobe flashing. Now LED strobe lights are extensively used at all entertainment venues and in all types of emergency vehicles. They light up a party venue brilliantly, and make the vehicle on which it is used conspicuous on the road.

LED strobe lights can be programmed to flash in various ways to create the appearance of cyclic movements and this functionality is used widely on billboards and other advertisements. However, strobe lights are not used up to its full potential for ads and entertainments because too frequent flashing of lights is found to result in an attack of photosensitive epilepsy in those who are prone to it. In some industrial applications the full potential of strobe lights is exploited to get the required results.

In emergency vehicle lighting LED strobe lights are used as much for concealing the lights of the vehicle as it is used to make the vehicle conspicuous. A strobe light can be fitted into any of the existing lights of a vehicle like its front or rear light and will remain there completely indiscernible. This makes LED strobe lights extremely handy in undercover operations because a vehicle that is being pursued is unlikely to make out that the vehicle on pursuit is chasing it. The light can be instantly activated when light becomes necessary for the police vehicle to accomplish its mission.

Emergency vehicles, which are not involved in stealth operations, as well as ordinary non-emergency vehicles, often store an extra strobe kit in their vehicles to be better prepared for emergencies.

LED strobe lights are also used in what are called hazard lights or flashers, which are a warning system that all motor vehicles make, use of. This consists of activating left and right signals, and front and back signals, in a cyclic manner to caution other vehicles on the road. Since strobe flashes can be seen from a substantial distance, the use of strobe in flashers increases the visibility of the vehicle and thereby helps the approaching vehicles. If a vehicle originally does not have LED strobe lights in flashers, it can easily be upgraded with it.

Handheld LED strobe lights are available that can be switched modes for disco lighting and for emergency use in a vehicle. Anyone can have it in a car for use in lighting the interior of the car, or for flagging down another vehicle when there is an emergency. At the same time, it can be used equally effectively at a party venue.

There are also small LED strobe lights boxes for use in single rooms. These are ideal for small spaces and will have music playing along with the strobe flashes. The speed and frequency of the flashes and the music can be changed a lot even in these small machines. Strobe is great for entertainment and relaxing.
