The comfort of a soft pillow caresses every crevice of our heads with the gentlest touch to allow us to drift away into the clouds of tomorrow. As we drift away, sometimes we have memories that allow us to touch pleasantries of the past and uncertainties of the future. Occasionally, the magic of dreams gives us a surprise. I had a dream the other night where I had the pleasure of meeting an old friend. As I bumped into this old friend on the street we began to discuss stories of the past. Suddenly, a gust of wind blew over us and then... "Achoo!" My friend sneezed on my face. As I wiped the particles of water that came from my friend's nose (her snot) off my face, I woke up from the dream. I woke up and could feel the water from my friend's nose on my face even though it was not there. In relationships how many times do we create an image of our partner that is not really there? If you find yourself using statements like, "You always do...," or "You never used to do.., but now," you may be creating an image that is not only inaccurate of your partner, but equally not justifiable. In relationships try not to define people with all inclusive statements. If you like or dislike your partner's behavior, talk about the situation which is happening now. Talking about past events will just add fuel to the fire. Past events can be discussed when emotions are not so high. If you create all inclusive images you may find yourself often "sneezing" in the face of your relationship. Simply grab a tissue, wipe away the mess and start again with healthy communication. Issues will come between you and your partner like the passing wind. Speak about the ‘now' situation and not the ‘every time' situation. In other words, turn away from inclusive accusations and sneeze into the ‘now tissue' where you can clearly see what just came out. Please feel free to use this article.
