French Polish - The magic behind the substance

French polish is easily the most desired coating on wooden furniture in terms of clear finishes, as it is the most attractive in appearance. Varnishes and lacquers simply can't match up to its level of sheen provided, as the coating given by it is very thin, lending a transparent and crystal clear visual impact to the natural grainy effect of furniture.

French polish, based on shellac, was discovered by the French Martin brothers in the 18th century, and had already been in use in 1815 in England for keeping pianos looking prim and proper. By the end of the 19th century, it had become one of the most popular treatments for expensive and precious furniture, particularly the one made from mahogany. And while it is no secret that mahogany indeed is the best recipient of quality from this wonder finish, other woods are also not far behind in getting the perfect shine from French polish.

However, coming to a bit of a downside, this polish is not the best in resilience to heat or liquids, and excessive exposure to sunlight and accidental spillage of alcohol in particular does tend to whither away its effect. However, even this downside is not a major one, as re-polishing is a very simple process, and one can easily get that fantastic shine back within no time.

However, applying the same requires expertise, and one must always consult professionals for any kind of major polishing job. This is mainly because application of French polish needs to be just in the right amount for the effect to come properly. Further, rubber is used to apply the same, which also takes a great deal of skill to be done properly. One must also know when to stop, since over application is sure to spoil the complete effect.

These days, there are many companies that provide these services at competitive rates. So if you are looking towards giving a brand new look to your furniture, you must not waste time and contact them right now, since this is one technique that is sure to work!
