You might be wondering why in the past couple of days or even weeks your husband is no longer holding your hands while you two are strolling let's just say under a moonlit night. The answer to that can be seen in your hands. Hand dermatitis is becoming a common problem nowadays. But just what exactly is hand dermatitis? Hand dermatitis or hand eczema usually is the result of a combination of sensitive skin and an irritation or an allergic reaction especially from materials that we usually get in contact with. Moreover, individuals who have hand dermatitis often have dermatitis elsewhere meaning even their relatives may have hand dermatitis.

Hand dermatitis may be causes by the removal of the film of oil on our skin due to the excessive used of soaps, detergents, chemicals and other harmful substances. Aside from that, an over exposure to some environmental irritants may cause redness as well as inflammation. However, there are some people whose hand dermatitis is genetically predisposed which means that it would take less environmental irritants to cause hand dermatitis compared to those individuals who are not genetically predisposed. And the good thing about hand dermatitis is that, it is not contagious so you can still hold hands with your love ones while strolling.

In curing hand dermatitis, skin protection plays a vital role in the whole treatment process. Aside from that, it is also very important to protect your hands from harmful agents like soaps, detergents, scouring powders and other similar irritating chemicals by means of wearing waterproof, cotton lined gloves. Another thing, it is also advisable to wear heavy duty gloves especially when doing heavy work such as gardening and it is also best to wear cotton gloves when doing household chores. And it is also a good idea to use dishwasher on a regular basis in order to refrain your hands from being expose to too much soap. Also use lukewarm water and only a small amount of mild soap if possible. Then rinse the soap off carefully and afterwards dry gently.

In addition, did you know that wearing rings also cause hand dermatitis? This is because rings often times trap some materials that irritate the skin underneath the ring and so the most practical way is to simply remove the ring when you are going to do some gardening or even some house work. Lastly, use only prescribed medicines as well as lubricants that will not irritate your skin.
