Not all green cleaning products have to be specially formulated or expensive. Your kitchen store cupboard will harbour some useful Eco cleaners if only you know what to do with them! Firstly that infamous baking soda... Homemade cleaning products are an easy way to ensure you make cleaning Eco friendly. The key point is that you as an average consumer would not be allowed to simply buy the key ingredients in a conventional cleaning product because they are toxic. If you can buy ingredients for environmentally friendly cleaners you can bet your bottom dollar they are much safer for you. If you can buy Eco cleaning product ingredients in the food aisle you know they have been through stringent safety checks and you are on to a winner if you really want a safe cleaning product. The key ingredients in your homemade Eco cleaning products are probably already in your home. If not, they are cheap and widely available. In this article we will deal with a truly simple green cleaner. It has a multitude of uses both alone and with other homemade Eco cleaners. First of all baking soda (bicarbonate of soda). This wonderful white powder has experienced something of a renaissance over the last decade or so. It is a natural substance which poses no harm to the environment. Remember you do not need food or medical grade baking soda, which are much finer in texture and a little more expensive. Buy the largest pack you can and you will save yourself a fortune on conventional cleaners. The list of practical green cleaning uses for baking soda is massive. Once you start using it, you will be using it everywhere. To begin with, let it be your scourer. Anything which is covered in tough dirt, encrusted grime or any general thick filth should be tackled with a thick paste of bicarb. The grains are excellent for lifting off grime and the compound absorbs grease too. With conventional oven cleaners being some of the most toxic products in your home, let baking soda be your new Eco oven cleaner. Tubs and tiles respond brilliantly to the baking soda treatment. Though it is tough on dirt, it is very gentle on plastic. Even great to use on baby's milk bottles, without scratching. Secondly, let it be your deodoriser. A sprinkle in your garbage pail, nappy bucket, compost crock or anywhere else that gets a little smelly, will keep it smelling sweet. Each time I change the kitchen garbage bin I sprinkle a few teaspoons of baking soda in, now my bins never smell. This is useful for damp places such as basement cupboards, to absorb that mildewy smell too. If you have any plastic drinks or food containers which have absorbed food odours sprinkle with some bicarb and leave overnight. Thirdly use bicarb in your laundry. The micro-granules make this an ideal way to deal with tough dirt. It will brighten up whites easily. As we are all trying to reduce energy usage and our reliance on harmful detergents, bringing up those whites can be a tough job for standard safe detergent at low temperatures. Add a cup of this to really boost your Eco cleaner's performance. For more information on choosing a simple green cleaner and Eco cleaners visit the Eco Green Cleaning Product site.
