Don't Break the Bank - Break a Pot Instead |

When I was first introduced to money pots, I was slightly perplexed by the whole concept. Beautifully handcrafted, these pots are used to save your loose change and are based upon a 2000 year old tradition of Italian pottery. Each pot can hold up to £200 in silver coins, making it a practical and stylish home accessory. However, part of the tradition of these pots is to fill them with change, then to smash them in order to release your money. This is the part which confused me - why would I want to pay a significant sum for a pot, which I then have to smash? Surely save that money, rather than to spend it on something to keep my money in? I soon realised that the need to smash the pot is actually part of the ritual. Since there is no way to access the cash in your pot until it is broken, you are less tempted to dip into your savings when the notion takes you. Additionally, the whole excitement of filling the pot, and the satisfaction of smashing it actually provides great encouragement to save more cash. I thoroughly recommend the money pot, both as a means to save your cash, and as a gorgeous ornament for the home. Available in a selection of beautiful hand painted designs, these unusual pots make great gifts for all sorts of occasions. Whether or not you wish to break the pot in the end is your choice, but you will most certainly enjoy saving your money with one of these gorgeous little pots.
