Desert boots are indispensable utility wear in deserts where the sand landscape and climate keep on shifting. The outsole is kept as large as possible to increase the area of traction and it will also be provided with venations or projections for good traction. The outsole will be typically oil and slip resistant, and the shock mitigation technology used in the boots make it impact resistant during fast movement. Some models of combat desert boots will have a pouch where a knife can be stored. Desert boots are also a fashion statement for those belonging to some subcultures as well as for many in the fashion conscious younger generation. The type of desert boots, that continues to be popular fashion wear with minor modifications, was originally designed by Nathan Clark in 1950. Though it was designed as an improvement on the desert boots used by soldiers during the Second World War, it came to be of use more as peacetime wear. It was accepted by people as a comfort wear for use when they were required to walk for hours at a stretch, or had to remain on foot for a long time. Plantation crepe outsoles that work as a shock absorber as well as cushion the feet, stitched seam, roomy toe, good heel stability, ankle support, high traction sole, and two line lacing pattern, are among the other special features of desert boots that are used by ordinary people mainly as walking shoes during hot weather. There is a rising popularity of desert boots in the fashion field of 2010 after some celebrities have been found sporting it. Tan is the most common color for desert boots, especially those issued as combat boots, but fashion wear desert boots come in brown, fawn, khaki, etc. also.
