There are many reasons that people decide they wish to provide foster care; some are simply looking for a way to give back to the community and enjoy knowing that they have the chance to make a positive impact of the life of a child. Some have even been fostered themselves when they were growing up and are now ready to return the favour, while others simply want to share the advantages that they've had in life. Whatever their reason for deciding to foster most fosterers find that the experience gratifying. However, there are unfortunately some misconceptions that hold people back from taking part. There are many people out there who would love to invite children into their homes and lives but are worried that they will not be able to give the children the care or attention they might need due to financial constraints. This is because, in this day and age many, families need two working adults to survive. This means that to provide the amount of money they think fit for their families; it is often the case that both parents are out at work for long hours and potential foster carers can't see how they will be able to provide an adequate amount of time. What many people often don't realise is that fostering can also be a career. Looking after children, especially children who need a little extra care and attention, can be a full time job. The children that are in need of foster care have often suffered from unsafe home environments or unstable relationships, this means that providing a safe and secure environment for them to develop is essential. People who can offer the attributes that foster care agencies are looking for can turn their home into their workplace while simultaneously resting assured that they are contributing to the present and future wellbeing of children. While foster care can create many challenges, especially when it comes to children who have suffered and find it difficult to communicate, it is a wonderfully rewarding. Anyone who is interested in foster care must first ensure that they have the basic resources needed, including a genuine desire to help, nurture and protect children. Social workers and fostering agencies must ensure that everything a potential foster care provider offers is in the best interests of the child. However, anyone who is determined to help children and give them the best they can, will find it possible to enjoy a rewarding and rich career in foster care.
