Your home is your personal heaven on earth. You enjoy most of your time here and return to it for comfort and happiness. However, you cannot expect your house to give you great returns year after year with almost zero effort on your part to maintain its tip-top shape. Home maintenance is a crucial aspect of possessing a house not only because you want to feel comfortable in it always, but also because a well maintained house will always have very good value on the real estate market.
Cracked window panes, peeling paint, overgrown weeds, dirty lawn, unclean basement, poor lighting, and bad wiring - all show negatively in your house report card. Moreover, many issues could pose health hazards for you as well as your kids. For example, unsteady dining tables can cause hot food to fall leading to burns and injuries. Thus, instead of trying to run away from home maintenance, you should make it a part of your regular schedule. The first thing to do before jumping into house maintenance is to have a proper plan. A well laid out plan keeps you focused and helps you follow a particular method of work that saves a lot of time. Since every family has its own schedule and lifestyles, it is completely up to you to devise a plan that suits you. Also, do not make a plan that is too rigid as glitches are inevitable and you may have to adapt to the circumstances. Next you must observe each and every area of your house and look for issues that need correction. Do any of your furniture items look dull enough to require re-touching? Move into your kitchen and check every appliance for its functioning. Clean the dining table pad. Notice the level of lighting in the rooms. Is it too low to be useful? Check the air conditioner valves and the wires. Any issues with the electric devices should be given high priority. Schedule some time weekly or daily to clean the bathrooms. Also, a thorough carpet cleaning is important to prevent dust allergies. Make sure that there is no peeling paint in any room. It is important to check that none of the furniture or appliances in the house presents any hazard to people. So look carefully and keep noting down everything. Though after recording all the details you may feel overwhelmed, it is important that you start the process as soon as possible. Set your priorities for each task and start plodding at it. If a favorite Amish furniture piece looks worn out, get it retouched or repaint it yourself. For appliances not working well, consider the cost of getting it repaired versus buying a new one and work at it accordingly. Wash all the bed sheets, covers, curtains and other fabrics.
