Some coffee tables are just boring. They are the tables that you can find in almost every home in America. It is not the fault of the furniture makers, after all, there are only so many ways that you can make a table that fits in front of a sofa. If you want a coffee table that is different try some of the following ideas. Take an older dining table that may be a garage sale find and cut the legs down to a coffee table height. This will give you an over sized coffee table that is perfect for a sectional sofa. The design also works well with a love seat and sofa. Move the table out a bit and you can enjoy traditional Japanese style dining. If you have a foosball table that is not being used, you can also try cutting down the legs on this table. Add three inch portions of the leg sections that were cut off back to the top to support a glass table top. The game can still be played, although you may have to sit or stand on your knees in order to play. Speaking of that glass top, one of the greatest finds for making your own coffee table is a yard sale glass top table. The glass can be supported using all kinds of different ideas. One table using old telephone books stood on ends with the pages opening out recently won an award. If you have old hard side luggage, try using four pieces that are the same size as legs for the corners of the glass. This is a great addition to any shabby chic room. Another stack of old luggage makes a great lamp stand. Do not forget that you can still use the luggage for storage of items that you will not need to regularly access. Again using a glass table top, you could use four small boulders for legs. Use a piece of felt similar to the color of the rocks to pad the glass. Try using a large tree trunk section that has been cut to sit evenly as a pedestal for the glass top. Polish the top of the trunk with a sander in order for the growth rings to show even more. If you are an avid reader find books at yard sales or library sales. Stacks can be glued together to form sturdy stacks for legs for your glass table top. Your coffee table is perfect for your reading room or the living room. Some homes do not have room for a large coffee table in the center of the room. Try keeping four or five twenty four inch high stools stacked in the corner. Hand the stools out whenever someone needs to have a surface to hold a beverage or snack. Wooden folding television trays that stack together can also serve a similar purpose but be folded away to save space in the room. Nothing says that a coffee table has to be traditional or boring. Find or build a coffee table that fits with your lifestyle or offer other ways to entertain your guests and provide a place for their drinks. Annie is an expert furniture and interior design writer.
