Safety comes first and therefore whatever garden tool you are using for gardening, you should ensure that working on it is safe. You need to use these tools frequently and too much heavy tools might hurt you during use. Very lightweight tool might be easy for handling but at the same time it should be heavy enough to do the job properly. So, a proper selection of the tool and well maintenance will ensure safety while use. Maintenance of any tool including garden tool used by us is necessary and here are few easy steps of maintenance so that not only tool life is enhanced but also we do the gardening job safely.

Keep garden tool out of reach of children:

Keeping garden tools here and there is the habits of many one of us and having sharp edges of this equipment, we invite danger for our self and our family members.
If we don't remove garden tools after gardening, these equipment might hurt our children during playing or walking in the garden
So, we should remove these garden tools at a safer place as soon as we finish gardening. However, we should ensure that we remove soil and clean these garden tools before keeping them in a safe and dry place.

Apply primer and paint on garden tools:

Rust, which takes place on wrought iron quickly damages the whole garden tool rapidly.
Therefore for protecting rust from garden tools, a few coats of primer and paint are applied on metallic parts except the part of garden tool, which have sharp edges.
We can protect this major part of the garden tool by applying lanolin on it.

Protecting wooden part of the garden tool:

Wooden handle is necessarily required in majority of the garden tools and therefore for protecting it, you need to apply varnish or wood paint at regular intervals.

At the beginning of any gardening season, you need to check your garden tools for their effectiveness. You need to sharpen some or all of the garden tools. If you follow good maintenance practices, you will enjoy gardening safely
