The LED Lighting consists of the solid state lamps that use the light emitting diodes as their source of light. In this system, multiple diodes are used to make one light because the light produced by a single diode is insufficient when compared to any other incandescent or fluorescent lamps. Though the initial cost of installing the LED lighting system is higher than any other traditional systems, LED can be relied upon for its efficiency and long life.
The LED lighting system though costs you a little more, but will prove to be your long term investment. The facts that make the LED lighting better than all the other existing systems are: • Efficiency: The efficiency of the LED is much higher. The LED can offer over 100 lumens from a device having the power of 1 watt. Furthermore, it is attuned in generating higher outputs at high driving currents. • Size: Good things come in small packages. The LED lamps are the perfect example to this. The small size of the LED lights makes them flexible. They can be easily installed in form of rows, or at individual points, clusters and rings. • Durability: Unlike the fluorescent tubes, these lamps do not have any filament or tube that can break, hence making the lamp durable and long lived. • Life Expectancy: The LED lamp can produce non stop light for not less than 60,000 hours! • Dimming: The LED lamps have an added advantage. They use the technology called pulse width modulation, in which the light gets turn on and off at varying intervals, thus providing full dimmability. • Eco Friendly: The absence of mercury and hazardous halogen gas makes the LED lighting system Eco friendly. But this magnificent system has its drawbacks too: • The manufacturing process of the LED lighting system is still not efficient enough to meet the widespread requirements. • The LED lighting is quite expensive as compared to the existing systems. • The long life of the LED lamps poses threat to the bulb makers whose existing consumers invest a lot in frequent replacements thus contributing to their business.
