While constructing a new house or renovating an old one, installing a lighting system is of great importance. It is needless to say that lighting is very important for your home. It should be done very carefully. Before you start working on the installation of lights, you must decide the type of lighting you want to have in your house. Also think about energy saving - it's important for the environment but for your wallet as well. Installing a lighting system is not a very difficult job, still it is better to take the services of a professional. Playing with electricity is like playing with fire. You must know various procedures and rules of electricity while working on a lighting system installation. It takes few steps to install a lighting system in your house. While installing a new circuit for lighting system, there must be a breaker present on the panel which should be single pole 20 amp breakers. It may happen that your panel does not have available space for adding extra circuits. In that case, you will need to upgrade the panel to larger size to make space for the extra load. Choose the place where you want to install a new lighting fixture. Cut a hole for the new light of the size of the junction box. Once you cut the hole, stretch the wire from the panel to hole that has been made. Fix the junction box appropriately in the place. Similarly install the new box for the next light. Extend the wire from the previous box to the next one. There will be two sets of wires in each box. These wires will be attached to the light. Install the fixture in the junction box with the help of the screws given. These are the basic steps to install a lighting system on the wall or ceiling. But many practical problems may appear while doing this like problems with ceiling or wall construction, or problems with wires. A professional electrician will be able to deal with this quite easily. There are different kinds of lighting systems which require different types of installations. You need to follow instructions for installing a particular fixture. You know the basic steps which can be the good starting point to install the lighting system in your house. There are few points you must remember while installing lighting. Use task lighting which means, use lights for specific purpose instead of brightening the whole area. Three-way lamps are good if you want light at low level and bright light is not needed. For the areas like laundry room, garage and workroom, install 4-foot fluorescent fixtures with reflective backing.
