Garden lights are a brilliant idea to help add aesthetic value to a home garden. But to be able to not only make a decision on the style and quantity required but also installing garden lights can be extremely intimidating. In fact, it's better when certain works are done by professionals only. Low-voltage outdoor lighting kits are available in markets with detailed instructions, but don't try to do it on your own. It may seem to be quite easy to go through the process providing you are an experienced electrician. Below please find ten steps to garden lighting installation. 1. A Ground Fault Circuit Interpreter (GFCI) must be installed before one begins to install the garden lights. 2. Establish where the lights will have to be placed and how bright the lights must be. Create an indicator or blueprint for all the light locations and the brightness for each light. 3. According to the decisions made in the previous step, the variety of styles, brightness levels and the likes can be chosen and bought. In addition, one must also ensure that the transformer will be able to take on the load of all the lights that are to be installed. 4. With the help of the already created indicators/blueprints, position the garden lights. 5. Lay out the lighting cable that starts from the transformer and run it by each light on the strand. Leave extra cable at the transformer so that minor corrections in a particular location can be made later after the entire unit has been tested and installed. 6. Attach the lights to the allotted cable slots with the help of the detailed instructions available in the kit. 7. Once all the lights are connected, unscrew the screws of the transformer. Using a wire stripper, strip off approximately ½" of the cable wire for it to be attached to the transformer. 8. Verify and check if all of the garden lights can be illuminated. In case of some faulty lights, recheck if they have been correctly connected to the cable. Then accordingly adjust each and every light so that it shines in the desired intensity and direction. 9. Dig a channel that is approximately 5" deep and conceal the cable within. 10. Set the lighting timers to allow the garden lights to function automatically as planned.
