Painting is probably one of the most popular things for DIYers to tackle. Almost anyone can learn to paint a room and find that it looks pretty good. But there are safety precautions that you should observe to ensure that nothing goes wrong. What could go wrong when painting? For starters, paint emits fumes and you can't help but breathe them in. This won't hurt you if there is adequate ventilation, so be sure to keep windows open. Some paints are flammable, so don't smoke or operate electrical equipment whilst painting. Make sure all fumes are gone before allowing pilot lights or any gas flame to be ignited. Wear protective clothing when painting, including goggles. Paint is quite likely to splash into the eyes, especially if using a roller on the ceiling or high up on the walls. Long-sleeved shirts and pants will save having to rub your skin with harsh chemicals to remove splashes. Keep all lids firmly on when painting and keep children out of the room. If you get solvent in your eyes, flush with cold water for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical advice immediately. If you feel dizzy while painting, leave the room and get fresh air immediately. Seek medical aid if the problem persists. Anyone who swallows paint needs medical help immediately. Read all the instructions on the tin so you'll know what to do before it happens. If your child has just swallowed paint, you won't be able to concentrate on reading a label. Article Source: http://www.ArticleBlast.com |
