Cop lights incarnations

Cop lights are of two types - those that cops need atop their vehicles and those that they hold in their hands. Both are of equal importance for the police from the point of view of discharging their duties, and both types of cop lights have been getting continuously modified with the incorporation of advancing technology.

Though the cop lights of all types are evolving fast, the cop lights atop police vehicles have been changing mainly in shape, size, light intensity, color choices etc. The size of the light bars is spanning a wide spectrum in that there are mega light bars which accommodate an array of front facing, back facing, and alley facing lights, besides incorporating traffic directional arrows and takedown lights, and have control mechanisms that can program an array of flash patterns.

At the other end of the spectrum there are cop lights that are so small that they are practically invisible unless switched on. These lights just blend into the surroundings on the dash or deck or visor or grille where they are mounted. When activated the light intensity and flashing options of these tiny lights are such that they are the most perfect aids for police for undercover activities and for chasing suspects.

However, the cop lights used on vehicles do only the job of lighting in all its large and small incarnations. The manifestation of cop lights into things so different from that of being a light source is seen in handheld police flashlights in that some of them have become lethal and non-lethal weapons. Examples of its lethal incarnation are seen in cop lights that can be flipped open in a second into a submachine gun.

TLR-1, TLR-2 etc. are weapon mounted flashlights that have laser aiming capabilities. They have a clamp system that allows fast detaching and attaching of the weapon and offers a high level of precision when aiming at the target. FMG-9 is an example of such a light cum weapon that is in the making.

Stun gun flashlights are cop lights that incorporate into it an ultra bright light beam, a stun device, and an alarm device. The light beam itself is strong enough to distract the victim and the 130 db alarm is also piercing and disturbing enough to fend off miscreants. But much stronger than these is the stun device that can momentarily incapacitate the enemy. The stun device generally has a charge of one million volts. Stun gun flashlights are fully rechargeable. These are, however, non lethal weapons.

Another non lethal cop lights incarnation is the flashlight cum pepper spray combination. This combo too looks like an innocuous flashlight with the light source at one end and the pepper spray at the other end. The light can be flipped open into a pepper spray in seconds on to the face of a miscreant. It is helpful for police on night patrol who will have to protect themselves from criminals and also for police who are controlling a rioting mob.

LED incapacitators are also non-lethal cop lights that look like light sources but has the capacity to incapacitate the enemy. The flashlight here emits extremely bright and rapidly changing forms of lights that human eye cannot withstand. The result is that when a person's eyes come into contact with this light source he becomes disoriented and incapacitated enough to become totally subdued.

These are some of the cop lights incarnations but there are many more.
