One of the most important places of use in your house is the dining room. The centre of most household activity, the dining room is the place where the family gets together three times a day, and is the place used for a multitude of purposes. Even if you have an informal dining area, the requirement of dining furniture to suit your style is essential. In this article we shall see the how to go about choosing good dining chairs for your dining set.

Whatever be the dining method you follow- whether formal or otherwise, your house would definitely have something to work as a dining table, even if it is just for laying out the food. And unless that table happens to be incredibly low or you have a ground sitting arrangement as in some old Asian customs, you are likely to need dining chairs to go with the table. Now before you decide on the chairs, there are a few things to be kept in mind. Even if you already have a set and intend replacing it with a new one for better functionality, this article will help you.

Measure The Space Available: You need to be aware of the space you have available to play around. The size of the dining room chairs have to be adequate to allow free movement around the table. You also need to take into consideration the size of your dining table. Standard sized dining tables generally accommodate four, six or eight people comfortably, and the chairs you keep would be as per the size of your table. Make sure you keep adequate allowance for the table legs - it is not a very comfortable feeling to have table legs jutting between yours while sitting.

Check Out The Chair Width: While it would be dependent on the size of the room and the space available, the minimum size has to be taken care of. Go for a minimum of about eighteen inches of width, though if your space allows it, a size of about twenty-four inches width is much better. Anything less than eighteen inches may save on space, but will not be comfortable for a normal adult person. Consider keeping a special chair for your growing child - one with a sliding adjustable base to grow along with your child is a very practical investment.

Balance Sturdiness With Bulkiness: They are two conflicting requirements, but need to be balanced out. To be sturdy, the chairs have to be sufficiently large and strong. However, it is not a very good feeling seeing your child struggling to push around that heavy wooden chair for use. Modern lightweight and strong materials like aluminum, vinyl, wood laminates etc make it possible to have an acceptable via media. Another option is to have a chair with cutouts in the back

Don't Forget The Style: While functionality is extremely important, your chairs should also go well with the dining set in general. If you have a traditional setting, go for traditional look chairs, and if modern is your calling, you can choose from a large number of modern designs available in the market. Never replace a single chair- go for the whole set to maintain uniformity of design.

Whatever be your choice of chairs, do carry out adequate research before making your decision. You will get a wide range for each class of design and pocket.
