Central Heating Systems: Cleaning Using Power Flush
Article Submitted by: Joanna Harris

Over the period, central heating systems develop sludge and corrosion deposits. This reduces the efficiency of the system; sludge coats the piping and affects circulating efficiency. These things need to be cleaned periodically to let the system work properly. Power flushing is a good method to clean the whole system. It uses the power of water at high velocity to cleanse. In this process though, water is at high velocity but pressure is low so as not to cause any physical damage to the system. This process can be made more effective, if you add the powerful and mobilizing chemicals.

The main objective to clean the system is to restore the proper circulation. Another thing is the strange noise which is usually caused by the sludge and corrosion deposits. This cleaning process also does away with this noise. It removes the corrosion deposits and sludge from the system.

Power flushing is also used to clean the new systems of any debris, excess flux, swarf, grease, oil which is there in the new system to prevent the components from any rusting. It has to be removed before the system is used. It is important to clean the existing system before fitting a new boiler to avoid any future problems.

If you do not clean the system before use, debris, sludge or deposits may shift to boiler, heat exchanger which may cause more problems like reduced efficiency, noisy operations and failure to the boiler.

The working of power flushing is very simple yet effective. There is a power flushing pump which is connected into the heating system. It can be connected at any position like standard circulator pump coupling, or across the tails of one radiator or any other place. There is an instantaneous flow reverser device which works with powerful flush. It dislocates and mobilizes deposits and corrosion. Traditional cleansing systems are not able to move these deposits.

To remove the loosened sludge and deposits, clean water is flown in the heating system which flushes out the dirty water using a full bore dump valve. In the end, system contains the fresh and clean water.

There are few other things which can be attacked and removed by use of power flush. It can be used to remove the build-up of deposits in your boiler, clogged pipe work, gradual corrosion of pipe work, water pump contamination accumulation, and blockage in the water flow.

Use of power flushing results in extended life of water pump, elimination of heating radiator colder spots, reduced heating costs, extended boiler life and heat exchanger life, improving heat transmission.
