If you have carpets fitted on your floors, your house looks stylish as well as comfortable at the same time. Buying a carpet is a major investment and carpet fitting is equally expensive task. To increase the life of the carpet and to maintain its fresh looks, you will have to make some efforts. You should keep your carpet clean and prevent from unnecessary wear and tear. Here are few handy tips for carpet cleaning and stain removal.

Routine care and cleaning of carpet

The first and the most important tip about carpet cleaning is that you should take proper care of your carpet always. It will save you from buying expensive cleaning products and also save you from hard cleaning work. Even if you take care of carpet, it still gets dirty and dusty over a period of time. And you can do nothing about it. The main culprit is the dry dust which enters our home every minute. Then you often walk on your carpet, it creates grease accumulation on the carpet. When you eat or drink something, it might spill on the carpet, leaving a stain.

As for routine cleaning, carpets should be vacuumed at least once a week to avoid accumulation of dust, especially in the areas of high traffic. Accumulation of gritty particles cut the fibres of the carpet. Only deep vacuuming can take them out. While vacuuming, divide the floor into blocks and deeply clean one block at a time. For a plush carpet, you have to do many sessions of vacuuming to remove the dust accumulated.

Treating Stains and Spills on The carpet

While removing a carpet stain, do not rub it harshly and carelessly. One, it will cause the stain to become permanent and larger. Two, it will make the carpet wear out fast. Sometimes, you might have cleaned a carpet stain, but it comes out at the surface. This is because the thing causing the stain is still below the carpet. To remove that, place some thick cloth over the stain and press it with some heavy thing. It will absorb the stain to a large extent. Avoid use of iron or hair dryer to remove the stain. This act will rather make it permanent. Once in a while deep cleaning of the carpet is essential. Either you can take the services of a professional cleaner or you can buy a deep cleaning machine.

If there is a stubborn mould or mildew on the carpet, you should treat it differently. Make a solution of hydrogen peroxide (Mix one part of 3% hydrogen Peroxide with five parts of water) and brush it on the stain. Before using it, first test it in the hidden corner to check if it does not harm the carpet.

If something spills on the carpet, immediately clean it. Most of the spills can be handled with water. In case it does not get better, use a cleaning product. As long as possible, avoid harsh cleaning products. Rather use milder ones.
