Central heating system is essential in homes and buildings in colder regions of the world like Northern Europe and America. A boiler is the main appliance which functions in this system. Like all other machines, it also develops some problems and breaks down. It becomes very important to repair the boiler as soon as possible. A boiler is comprised of many components. When you call the Corgi registered engineer for boiler repair, he checks all the components of the boiler that might be connected with the problem and resolves the issue accordingly.

Given below are some problems, causes and possible solutions:

If boiler produces no heat, you need to check the possible reasons. It may happen that there is no power supply to the boiler or water level is very low. There may be malfunctioning of thermostat or remote control or electronic burner ignition. Check whether fuse or circuit breaker is tripped or blown. Maintain water pressure at 12-15 psi. If indicator light is off, relight it. Thermostat should be in heat mode. You can adjust thermostat settings by keeping temperature up and down a few degrees.

If boiler is giving poor heating performance, you need check it minutely. If there is sudden change, there may be improper level while gradual change may be due to mineral deposits in boiler and heat exchanger. These factors can influence the performance of the boiler. Check the reading of combination pressure/ temperature gauge. If water level is low, maintain it at 12-15 psi. Should you have any doubts - call a technician to clean the system.

There should be proper air volume in the expansion tank to prevent the water from boiling. And also, pressure should not exceed 12 psi. If these problems happen, you may notice a leak from the pressure relief valve. There may be high pressure reading on the gauge. Expansion tank is hot all over. It may happen that there is little air or more water in the tank. To repair it, release the water and let the air in. Then let the water in up to a desired level and turn the boiler on again.

Another problem may be water leakage around the boiler. You need to call a technician to repair the circulator. There may be leakage in the pressure relief valve due to any reason, sedimentation in the valve or problem in expansion tank. For any sedimentation you can clean the valve manually. But if you're not professionally prepared, you'll need an engineer to track the leak and repair it.

If all radiators do not pass the heat, there may be problems like air trapping in the line radiator or faulty zone valve or circulator. Open the radiator bleed valve present at the top of radiator. Get the circulator repaired.

These are the ways you can repair your boiler if the problem is not very serious but if it is something you cannot control, immediately call a Corgi certified technician.
