A garage is used for a lot of things in a home, so it is important to make it as appealing as the rest of the house. Many realtors give you a basic check list for getting your house ready to sell, but not much in the way of garage organizer tips to help present this part of your in the best light possible. Here are 3 tips I learned to prepare the garage for a home sale.

1. Now, in the first home we sold, there was no garage, so I didn't give it any thought. But the home we sold this summer we had a 2 car garage. Our first impulse was to use the garage for storage. Not very bright, tons of boxes stacked in the garage does not help it to look bigger! It is amazing how small a cluttered garage can look, it makes a buyer ask, can I really get two cars in here? You are probably packing up a lot of your extra stuff to help make your house look roomier, but don't store all that stuff in your garage, get a storage unit. It is only short term, and is well worth the money if it keeps your garage from getting cluttered.
2. Get a basic garage organizer. There are a lot of great options available to help you organize your garage. After all, you don't want your garage totally empty, you want to stage it so that it looks like a good, usable space. Here are a few garage organizer ideas:
• Shelves - perfect for storing boxes, camping and other outdoor items.
• Wall units - these will really catch a perspective buyers attention because they will say a lot about you being a highly organized person! These walls are designed to be highly customizable. You set up a variety of hooks, small shelves, bins and cabinets on the wall and use them for hanging garden tools, storing sports equipment, and a whole variety of other items that are typically kept in a garage.
• Overhead storage shelves - these are cool! Great for storing items not accessed very often. Plus, they free up the floor for other uses. Any home buyer would be excited to see one of these in a garage.
• Cabinets - These come in assorted sizes and configurations, but they are great for storing items while keeping them hidden behind closed doors, making your garage look even neater.
There are other garage organizer items available, but any of those mentioned above is a great place to start. Plus, most are mobile, so you can take them with you to help organize your new garage from the very beginning.
3. Clean your garage. Sweep it out really well, spray it down, perhaps even apply some concrete cleaner to remove stains. If stains are really set in, then you could consider an inexpensive garage flooring option, such as interlocking tiles or roll out mats.
