There has been a major revolution in the medical field, and it happened 100 years ago. Colloidal silver is a marvel in the field of medicine, yet it has been consistently kept under the radar due to a lack of quality control, claims that it is a pseudo-science, or that it causes a change to the pigmentation of the skin. However, similar arguments for dangers can be said for peanut butter from America and toys from China, and unlike those products, colloidal silver has undergone many major improvements through thousands of hours of research.
In numerous laboratory studies performed on the use of silver to treat and prevent infections, doctors had found that even bacteria, fungal, and virus organisms that were resistant to or unaffected by modern antibiotics had died within minutes of contact with the liquid colloidal silver. Additionally, and more importantly, in no case during the studies were harmful side effects detected.
In the argument against using colloidal silver, only two major issues arise, the effects of the silver on beneficial bacteria in the human body, and the ability for specific forms of silver to turn skin a blue-grey color. For the first issue, of all the people who have taken a liquid colloidal silver over a long duration, acidophilus strains in the gastrointestinal tract may have been affected, especially in cases where the acidophilus has already been compromised through some other bacteria. This problem is quickly remedied using an acidophilus supplement, and no long-term harm has been reported.
The second problem, known as Argyria, has been made famous by the home brewing DIY'er known as the "Blue Man." While it is true that taking a form of diluted silver changed his skin color, the process he used was an electrolysis process that is no longer considered a valid way for creating liquid colloidal silver as it creates silver ions, not silver particles. True colloidal silver products are made through a proprietary method, and do not cause adverse skin discoloration.
With such few risks, and the immense beneficial potential, the only people who should actually avoid using colloidal silver are those with an allergy to silver. As more super germs are being created due to an over use of modern antibiotics, the use of liquid colloidal silver, one of the few medical supplements that does not help to breed bacteria of any kind, is becoming more detrimental every day.
