HERBAL TEA Tea - the world's favourite drink - is by far the most popular drink consumed today. It is made from the leaves or buds of the tea bush Camellia sinensis or Camellia assamica or many of the hybrids of these two varieties. Tea is a source of the minerals manganese, essential for bone growth and body development, and potassium, vital for maintaining body fluid levels. Herbal teas have a healthy aura about them. Herbal teas, one of the world's most ancient beverages, have been used for centuries, whether for enjoyment or as treatment for practically every illness or disease that has ever existed. Herbal teas are dried leaves of a wide variety of plants or herbs, which you steep in hot water as you would regular tea. They are generally caffeine free. Many claims are made for the phytochemicals found in herbal teas, but all we can safely say is: yes, they do contain phytochemicals. Today herbal teas used as a refreshing beverage and for their natural therapeutic effects. Herbal teas can lift your spirits, calm your nerves, help you to sleep calmly, soothe your stomach and ease the misery of a cold as well as simply taste wonderful. The medicinal uses of tea are extensive; they have been used to treat virtually every disease or illness known to mankind. Many teas are utilized for boosting general health and wellness; these may be enjoyed at any time. Others herbal teas focus on relaxation, building immunity and resistance to illness, memory enhancement, insomnia, circulation, improving digestion, treating specific ailments/illnesses, increasing energy and vitality, cleansing and detox, strengthening the organs, adding nutrients and minerals, stomachaches, headaches, allergies, and many more uses. Herbal teas can be used to treat virtually any condition, and many may be consumed simply as a prevention method or as an immune or body strengthener. Herbal teas are truly an important medicinal instrument. BENEFITS AND ADVANTAGES OF HERBAL TEAS One of the many health benefits of drinking herbal tea is that it can offer protection against heart disease and cancer, it has also been reported that it can protect against some age related memory impairments such as Alzheimer's. This is because of the fact that tea is a good source of flavonoids. Flavonoids are the type of compounds that occur in most vegetables and fruits, they have very powerful antioxidant properties similar to those of antioxidant vitamins C and E. Tea itself is supposed to have twice the antioxidant power in just one cup. Herbal teas provides Anti-viral, Anti-inflammatory. Anti-bacterial and Anti-allergenic benefits. Some herbal teas are believed to have anti-cancer properties and are especially good for gastric, esophageal and skin cancers. They may even help in lowering cholesterol. Herbal Tea is also rich in various vitamins and, for smokers, it helps to discharge nicotine out of the system. SIDE EFFECTS OF HERBAL TEA Although most available herbal teas are safe, and provide an excellent alternative to coffee and other caffeinated beverages, a few unusual varieties can be toxic.
