Acai berries are usually harvested by the inhabitants of Brazil's Amazon Rainforest at least twice a year. This small purplish fruit, which sprouts at the tops of acai palm trees, is of great value in the diet and health of the locals. To be able to get this fruit, one must climb to the palm tree's top and collect the berries carefully. Acai berries are now distributed by farmers. Because of the burgeoning popularity of this fruit, many of the Brazilian rural communities are becoming involved in the yielding and harvesting of the berries.

Acai berry is an extraordinarily fragile fruit. Some people say that this perishable fruit will spoil within 24 hours, beginning from the moment it has been harvested. So it must be processed in a timely manner. Acai berries are usually loaded onto boats and brought to processing plants that will carry out the separation process. This fruit is usually transported by boats to the local municipality overnight. And since the acai fruit can only make up ten percent of the actual berry, it is cause to undergo a separation process to produce an edible and thick puree. Several processes can occur to the skin and pulp once it has been moved out from the seed. The kind of process depends on where the commodity is going to wind up. There are several things that can be done to the pulp. It can be freeze dried or can be juiced. The pulp can also be utilized in a variety of food dishes or can be processed into a powder.

The processed berries will be dispersed to businesses that will make use of the powdered, frozen, or dried products for supplements. A few companies blend the acai berry powder with other constituents, while others make use of the pure powder entirely on its own. The pulps and the juices of acai berries are often used in smoothies, juice blends and other beverages. Acai is frequently served in northern Brazil in gourds with tapioca. It can be consumed either sweet or salty depending on the local fondness and preferences. In southern Brazil, acai berries are often combined with granola. People consume it cold as "Acai in the bowl."

Acai berries popularity has made a striking impact on Brazil's harvesting activities. It is an astounding benefit to the Brazilians that the world has become aware of the health benefits that are being offered by acai berry. Picking up this fruit has no impact on its tree and it in fact prevents people from cutting it down to obtain the palm heart. The Brazilians are currently enjoying the economic increase while keeping the trees growing and flourishing in the rainforest.
