Vytorin is a cholesterol-lowering medicine that works by reducing the amount of cholesterol (a type of fat) absorbed by the body. It lowers "bad" cholesterol in the blood, (also called LDL, or low-density lipoprotein) and raises "good" cholesterol (also called HDL, or high-density lipoprotein). It further reduces your risk of hardened arteries, which can lead to heart attacks, stroke, and circulation problems.

This medication is commonly prescribed with diet, exercise, and weight control. Use of Vytorin may result in the breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue and lead to kidney failure.

Before using Vytorin, inform your doctor if you have any of the following: if you are allergic to any ingredients; if you have liver or kidney disease; if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breast feeding; if you have diabetes, an underactive thyroid, or a muscle disorder.
