Are you one of the estimated 30 million American women who is experiencing hair loss?

This female hair loss, which can begin as young as 15 years of age according to dermatologists reports, can lead to a feeling of lost identity or femininity among suffers. What can you do to help treat or reverse this hair loss?

Can Male Pattern Baldness Affect Women?

As the name indicates, male pattern baldness normally affects men. However, it is responsible for some female hair loss. Also known as androgenic alopecia, in this type of hair loss, your genes are responsible for whether or not you will lose your hair. With this type of hair loss, it is unlikely that your hair will regrow.

Dermatologists now believe that what is called male pattern baldness does not happen often, if at all in women. There is no current explanation why women who lose their hair do so in a different pattern then men who do so.

Female hair loss has been a taboo issue for years. Because it is not often discussed, many women believe that they are the only woman with this embarrassing issue. Because hair is seen as central to a woman's feminine identity, it can cause depression and despair for a woman to lose her hair.

In modern times, it is easier for a woman to discuss problems of female hair loss with her doctor. The growing reportage of feminine hair loss may be a reason why the problem seems to be spreading, as more women speak up about their hair loss.

If you experience a sudden, major hair loss, it can be the sign of an illness. When your body is busy fighting an illness, there is not enough energy to continue hair growth. When hair is lost in clumps, suddenly, it is time to visit the doctor immediately.

If you would like to reverse your female hair loss, you must first be correctly diagnosed. So visit your doctor, who can help you find out what is wrong, and decide how to deal with your problem.
