Working out is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle. People know and understand that to have a fuller, more fulfilling life, exercise really adds to it. But there are two things that many people forget to do before and after working out. These are also crucial to a healthy lifestyle.

The first thing is to stretch before and after your workout. Not only does this help release stored tension in your body, but it helps prevent muscle injury. The older we get, the more essential stretching is-- especially because our range of motion is shortened with increased age. Here is a short list of some benefits of stretching.

The second part of healthy fitness that is commonly overlooked or forgotten is the recovery after the work out. There are many food and beverages that help you recover from your workout quicker, safely, and effectively. Especially after a long workout, it is important to replenish your body. Even if you don't feel immediately hungry after a workout, it is crucial to eat something—and something healthy. Here is a small list of some great food and beverages that are perfect for recovering after an intense workout.

  • Peanut butter sandwich on whole wheat bread
  • Bowl of healthy cereal
