Many people are uncomfortable or experience some degree of anxiousness when thrust into a new situation or a group of people who are unfamiliar to them. Unfortunately, for roughly ten percent of people, social anxiety is so severe as to be disabling. Scientists now think that a much larger number of people might suffer from more mild forms of social anxiety that can result in significant problems in daily interactions. The technical term for this kind of anxiety is 'social phobia'. Social Phobia most often happens when a person has fears or worries that often are caused by being involved in a social event. Anyone who has a social phobia may also struggle with forcing themselves to stop thinking too much about how others are passing judgment on or evaluating him or her. For people who have social phobia, anxiety can occur in many different kinds of situations, such as going shopping, attending a party, speaking in public, standing in front of an audience, or being interviewed. These kinds of social anxieties can also make themselves visible in the body; for many people with social anxiety, sweating, blushing, shaking, or stomach problems can occur when facing these kinds of stress provoking situations. Scientists now argue that social phobia is defined by problems with self confidence. Self confidence is our ability to feel that we have the capacity to make the right decisions, be independent, and take power over our lives. People who lack self confidence -- a very common problem in today's modern world -- may worry too much about how they are perceived, to the point of not wanting to take part in social events or of having a sense of feeling out of control. Fortunately, there are some simple actions a person who suffer from self confidence problems can take to regain this control. One possible course of action someone who suffers from self confidence problems can take is to make use of an anxiety and phobia workbook. You can think of the anxiety and phobia workbook as a simple way to get insight into the problems you are experiencing by keeping a journal of triggers and mood symptoms; there are also exercises to do that will aid you to build more introspection about your self confidence problems. When you have gotten to the point at which you have started to have some insight about your problems with self confidence, and have made the decision that now is the time to begin building self confidence, then it might be a good idea to investigate a kind of therapy that has been shown to be immensely successful in social phobia. Like the anxiety and phobia workbook, this special kind of therapy is defined by being centered on aiding you to become pro-active and develop control over your life. What this means is that you will be curing your own problems. This kind of therapy, called hypnotherapy, works by harnessing the secret powers of your unconscious to aid you to become more confident, assured, relaxed, and comfortable with yourself. It may be surprising to know that we all come into this world with these abilities, but due to difficult life events, learned disempowerment, and problematic social interactions, it is common to lose sight of our inborn abilities to take control of these powers. Hypnosis therapy has been clinically proven to work for people with self confidence and anxiety problems. Many people who have self confidence and other anxiety related problems often seek out a "quick fix" solution, such as medicines, herbal remedies, and short-term therapy. Although these are things that can assist some individuals, they don't truly attack the cause of our self confidence problems - our unconscious. If you want to deal with self confidence problems, you must be in charge of your own cure. If you decide to check out hypnosis therapy to aid you to acquire self confidence, you will begin a series of sessions with a hypnotherapist who will help you to enter a deep state of calmness. Within this place of relaxation, your unconscious is wide open and ready to be reached by hypnotic suggestion. Your hypnotherapist will then work with you in this open state to use repetitive suggestion to encourage you to realize that you are a confident, strong, and independent person. Other possibilities for people who struggle with self confidence are to participate in hypnotherapy through video or audio recordings, which can be watched or listened to in the comfort of your own house. Many people also find out that learning self-hypnosis, a specific relaxation technique in which you are encouraged to open yourself up to your innermost desires and needs, with just a little bit of assistance, is very helpful. Whatever form of hypnotherapy for anxiety you decide upon, you can be assured that you are undertaking a critical step in enacting your own treatment and recovery.
