Here we are talking about health insurance. If you have experienced this it is known to you but those who are unknown to this they better know the fact that making original Medicare policy can not determine your whole spending when you will claim it. You will need the supplementary Medicare plans to bridge the gap made by your previous original Medicare policy. Medicare policies do not cover all or pays for all of your medical bills.

There always remains some gap between the Original Medicare policy coverage and the actual bill payable. Therefore to bridge this gap and to pay off your medical bills without putting much pressure on your pocket the best way is to get Medicare Supplement Plans along with your Original Medicare policy. The Medicare Supplement Plans are supplementary insurance policies which help to bridge the gap between the actual medical bill payable and the original Medicare policy coverage. And because of this very feature of these policies they are also known as the medigap plans. These plans are sold and administered by the private insurance companies only. These plans pays for those extra expenses that are not covered under the Original Medicare plans. As these plans bridge the gap between the actual medical cost payable and the Medicare coverage, for that reason these plans are also known as the medigap policies.

There total twelve plans named after English alphabet. From A to L these policies are leveled. And each of these provides different kinds of benefits and coverage. They are strict and can not be changed personally by the individual companies as different private companies can operate these medigap plans to supplement or better to say support the original Medicare plans. One very important thing is that it only support Medicare plan it cannot be made separately. If you have already an original Medicare plan then you can get yourself enrolled for this medigap plan or Medicare supplementary plan. To get enrolled for the medigap plans a person must first of all get enrolled for Medicare plans Part A and B. During the open enrollment period which begins within 6 months of turning 65 or enrolling in Medicare Part B at 65 or older, a person may obtain a Medigap plan on a guaranteed issue basis. And there is no requirement of medical screening. But after the open enrollment period is over the issuing company may conduct a medical screening and also can obtain an attending physician's statement if they think it necessary.
