Fighting Childhood Obesity - Everybody's Concern |

Parents, schools, and food manufacturers are the entities that Michelle Obama is urging to take action on fighting childhood obesity. Many food manufacturers took notice of the initiative and are showing support to the campaign spearheaded by the first lady. Parents are also advised to watch the diet of their children, and so far there is a good response. Schools are also expected to support to this campaign called "Let's Move." Mrs. Obama called on corporate food giants such as Coca-Cola, General Mills and Kraft Foods to step up efforts to produce more healthful food products, than simply manufacturing food with very little nutritional value if there is any. She encouraged them to put warning on the food labels along with reducing calories in salty food and sugar in sweets. More than just doing these necessary efforts, Mrs. Obama called for them to move faster. Both the first lady and the food manufacturers deserve commendation for this. As parents, how much are you willing to support the campaign against childhood obesity? You must give a 101% on this as it is your primary responsibility to bring up healthy and able-bodied future adult Americans. And as loving parents you can't let your kids grow only to suffer from high cholesterol, high blood pressure, type II diabetes, or any other health problems related to obesity. Just like what Michelle Obama and the experts say, "the key to solving childhood obesity is healthy diet and exercise." Parents must be watchful of what their children eat and their eating habits both at home and in school. The family needs to involve children in physical activities regularly. They also need to do cooking in a healthy way like baking, broiling and steaming instead of the oily frying. They must also be a good example on eating habits, no skipping of breakfast; more fruits and vegetables; more water or low-fat milk; less sugary food; less convenience food. And most of all, they should provide their children with nutritional facts of the food they eat, explaining them the benefits of eating healthy and disadvantages of not eating the right way. Schools play a very important role on watching kids' diet as much of their time is also spent in the school premises. The school canteens must work in cooperation with the campaign. The food they serve must provide the nutrients for a balanced diet that children need to be healthy. It is also important for canteen administrators to take responsibility on limiting obese or overweight kids from eating. Taking notice on how big the uniform shirts or school uniforms of students is as easy as counting 1, 2, and 3 anyway. Yes, every entity involved with rearing children must be responsible with the kids' welfare. Mrs. Obama cannot combat childhood obesity alone. She needs the cooperation and help of everyone. And it is the right thing to do. Article Source: http://www.ArticleBlast.com |
