Effective Recovery After Liposuction

Although liposuction treatments are not as invasive as some cosmetic procedures, there is still a distinct period afterwards where your body will be in a state of recovery. It's important that you do what you can to ensure the most effective recovery - because that way you'll be able to enjoy the results without having to worry about complications!

Wherever on your body you're planning to have some areas of fat removed, you need allow yourself adequate time to rest. It's recommended that you book yourself one to two weeks off work so you don't move around too much and have the freedom to recover in a relaxed environment at home. As many people choose to have liposuction to large areas such as the stomach, it's crucial that you avoid bending or heavy lifting for at least 48 hours after the treatment in order to avoid further injuring yourself.

You'll also be required to wear a support garment for around six weeks after the surgery - this provides much-needed support for your body and should be kept in a good condition. The garment is applied for the first time usually after your procedure and you are expected to keep it on for the period your surgeon recommends. Unfortunately, that means that baths and showers are out until you're allowed to take it off, meaning strip washes will be the road to hygiene for a while!

Most clinics will ask you to return for a post-operative consultation where your treated area will be assessed and, ultimately, approved. This is when it gets close to the time that it's safe to shed the support garment and start properly enjoying your new body - just make sure you continue to take care of yourself and avoid strenuous activity until you're fully healed. Following surgery, you'll probably notice a lot of bruising around the treatment area - don't worry, this is perfectly natural and will fade with time like any other bruise.

Just like any surgery, liposuction takes time to recover from but, once you're fully healed, you'll be able to enjoy the absence of that unsightly fat and the fantastic confidence boost you'll receive! The treatment can really be life-changing for many people who have struggled to work off areas of stubborn fat and you can rest assured that the end result will be more than worth the discomfort of the recovery time.
