These days when the world's population continues to grow at a fast rate and sexually-transmitted diseases are widespread, the best protection any teenager or adult can use is a contraceptive. And for men who are sexually active, the one that comes in very handy is the condom. The condom, which dates back in the ancient Egyptian times, has long been proven to be the most effective in preventing pregnancy as well as the spread of diseases.

Durex condom is just among the popular brands that has been in existence for more than 80 years now. The Durex condom brand continues to be the most popular worldwide and is said to account for 26 percent of the four billion dollar condom market globally. Currently, it is distributed in more than 150 countries.

Quality condom is the trademark of Durex. This is achieved by conducting several tests including the air inflation test everyday involving newly manufactured condoms. The tests are meant to determine the elasticity, strength, size, thickness and fluid leakage of condoms. The air inflation test, in particular, normally involves a condom being filled with air until it bursts.

The latest effort of Durex geared towards maintaining quality is to recruit condom testers around the world. Some 5,000 volunteers regardless of status, age, ethnic group or sexual orientation are being recruited to test the Durex condoms and report to the company their experiences with the product and lubricants. Those interested need only to apply online on the Durex website and give feedback about the condom after using it.

But take note, applicants will still be interviewed to make sure that they're fit for the project. Questions will cover frequency of condom use and the reason for their desire to be a condom tester for Durex. Creative answers are preferred by the company. This project, which is more like a survey, is aimed at helping the condom manufacturer determine consumer satisfaction and condom preferences.

Successful applicants will get the chance to test the latest Durex Avanti Ultima and non-latex condoms. The newest male condom is made from polyisoprene, the first in the world. Being soft and elastic, it is meant to provide users with maximum comfort.

For those accepted to become testers, they will receive a variety of products like condoms, lubricants and a vibrating ring via the mail. After using the products, they have to log on to the Durex site and provide information about what they liked or disliked while using the condom.

Durex received an overwhelming response to its latest testing project during its initial recruitment. Some 14,000 interested people applied during the first day of recruitment in France alone. Canada was the most recent to conduct a recruitment of some 1,000 volunteers. Applicants in Australia, New Zealand and Malaysia were also in the thousands, according to a Durex official.

The brand name Durex, registered way back in 1935, is actually derived from three words that best describe the condom's attributes - durability, reliability and excellence. Being a pioneer in condoms, Durex was the first brand to come up with a lubricated condom, the first condom with an anatomical shape and the first non-latex condom.
