Head lice are a common problem which most parents face. Most of the children get louse or lice from other children at gyms, movie theatres and kids at school. The elders also get head lice from different places. Head lice are contagious. They can lead to some embarrassing situations in the social life of a person. These parasites survive on the scalp of a person by feeding on the blood of the person. They are harmful to scalp as they absorb the nutrients from scalp. Head lice are irritating and one needs to know proper treatment to remove them.

Nevertheless, head lice are one of easy itchy conditions that you can treat successfully. First, you should wash your hair, making sure every strand is saturated. This will drown most of the adults. To get the rest, you should thoroughly coat your hair with at least half a bottle of any hair conditioner you can get a hold of. This suffocates the rest of the adult louses. Leave it on for about ten minutes, and then comb your hair with a nit comb, then rinse.

After shampooing, it's time to comb the hair again with a heavy-duty egg and nit comb. This comb is made of stainless steel, as opposed to those flimsy plastic combs that come with the average shampoo kit. Even though the comb is made of stainless steel, it has rounded blunt ends that make it gentle to use. The comb is sturdy enough to be boiled in between uses and can be used on any type of hair. It even comes with a long-handled mini-magnifier to help you visually locate eggs and nits that may be hiding in the hair.

Have the infected person remove all clothing from the waist up before you apply head lice treatment. Follow application instructions carefully. One application is usually enough but if you have long hair you may need two. Leave the medicine on your hair for the required length of time. You then rinse completely and pick out any nits. Follow all directions on the bottle. Put on clean clothes when you are finished.

Make sure to check every family member for head lice and only treat the family members with confirmed head lice.

When you have a scalp full of head lice, should you trust the various insecticides that are available through pharmacists? The scalp needs to be treated with a successful treatment and one which will treat your head lice problem without any side effects. It maybe that you are unsure of what treatment to use for the treatment of head lice and what products might cause further irritation or worse still and allergic reaction.

The life cycle of the head louse has three stages: nit, nymph, and adult. The life cycle of a single louse from egg to egg is about 1 month. Nits: Head lice eggs are called nits. Nits are laid by the adult female louse and are attached to the base of the hair shaft by strong cement. They are located close to the scalp because they require body heat for incubation.
