The importance of drinking water cannot be understated and it is essential that we drink more. When we start to feel thirsty, we are already dehydrated! But consuming the chemical cocktail that comes out of our taps today is likely to do us more harm.

The benefits of drinking water are emphasized in that it accounts for 70% of our body weight. The importance of drinking water has to do with replenishing the fluids that we lose each time we exhale, move about, exercise or just sit.

Healthy, clear skin is also one of the many benefits of drinking water. It keeps the skin hydrated and looking youthful. A lack of hydration can make the skin look older and fewer firms. Keeping elasticity in the skin is largely dependent on how much moisture it has. Dry skin is made worse by not consuming enough water.

The importance of drinking water cannot be stressed enough. Despite having a regular supply of water, there are many people who are constantly in a state of constant dehydration. When the body loses water and is not dehydrated, many body functions cease to work properly. In addition, water helps to regulate our body temperature. Regulating our body temperature is extremely important especially during the summer months. When you are exposed to heat, your body loses water and you need to drink adequate amounts of water to hydrate yourself and regulate your body temperature.

Good digestion and nutrient absorption are also benefits of drinking water. Without a healthy intake of water, the nutrition that we are supposed to get from food can be lost.

The importance of drinking water is also clear when it comes to detoxification of the body. Detoxification plays a critical role in long-term health. Without adequate consumption of water, our bodies are completely unable to rid themselves of the dangerous toxins they are exposed to on a daily basis. When we prevent the build up of toxins by purifying our bodies with lots of healthy drinking water, we help prevent all types of degenerative diseases. And so we live longer, healthier lives.

Lead and copper ions are present in the tap-water of many homeowners. An ion exchange drinking water purification system exchanges those ions for the minerals potassium and sodium. They are the two most important electrolytes for maintaining good hydration.

While copper is not particularly toxic (a kid would have to eat a whole bag of copper pennies before toxic levels would be reached) it does affect taste. Lead, however is very toxic and there is no safe level for consumption. In DC, Baltimore and numerous other cities, ion exchange is an absolute necessity.

To be even more reassured, you can always heat your tap water to a rolling boil and keep it there for three to five minutes. However, most people find this measure too impractical and time consuming. What's more, this procedure results in concentrating all the lead is in the water and then it must be refrigerated if it is to be used for drinking.
