How To Plan The Perfect Baby Shower

I'm so excited because my best friend is having a baby and I volunteered to throw a shower for her. She and I have grown up together since we were 8 and I want to make this shower something that she'll always remember. I've been searching high and low for awesome baby shower ideas and have put together a great "how to" for anyone who has to plan the perfect baby shower in the future.

  1. Invitations

-Some of the best baby showers I've been to have been couple showers where both the husband and wife are invited. Decide how many people you want to accommodate and then ask the mother-to-be for a list of friends she'd like to be invited.

-Be creative with the invitations. Try fun designs like baby bottles, baby diapers, baby feet, ABC blocks, stork invitations, baby shoes, cute baby animals etc.

-Make sure to get the invitations out a good month in advance so that your guests can work it into their busy schedules.

  1. Decorations

-Baby showers are fun because there is so much you can do with baby themes. Stick with the pastels (pink if it's a girl, blue if it's a boy, and yellow and green can be neutral colors)

-One of my favorite things I've seen at baby showers is the diaper cake. I found the best picture of diaper cake and it is absolutely adorable!!! The diaper cake can be the centerpiece on the table of food and looks darling if you put it on a cake pedestal.

-Fresh flowers are always a great way to decorate and bring a fresh and elegant feel to the room.

-Don't feel like you need to go crazy, just keep the decorations simple and the color scheme constant.

  1. Food

-We hired a Salt Lake City Caterer to serve at my girlfriends shower, but I got some incredible ideas from what they put together for us.

-Miniature everything is perfect for a baby shower. Quiches, sandwiches, muffins and key lime pies will be a total crowd pleaser.

-For dessert they made cupcakes with pink frosting (she's having a girl) with plastic pacifiers stuck on top.

  1. Games

-One of the games we played was really fun, but will sound totally gross as I explain it. Moderately melt 5-10 different candy bars separately, placing each one in a diaper to be viewed by everyone. Mark each diaper as A, B, C, D, etc. Have everyone guess which candy is in each of the diapers. Make sure to use some candies that have nuts, toffee, caramel, etc. Totally sick, but totally fun!

-Another fun game involves guess which baby food is which. Take the labels off 5 different baby food jars and guests have to guess which baby food item they are eating.

  1. Party Favors

-Don't stress out about sending all the baby shower guests home with an extravagant party favor, but giving everyone a little something is a great way to end the event.

-Some ideas include: baby bottles filled with pink and white (or blue and white) jelly beans, cookie cutters in the shape of a baby bottle, pacifier, or baby feet, personalized candy bars (with mother to be's favorite candy bar and info)

So make sure to have fun and be creative with your baby shower. And remember... take LOTS of pictures!
