The Elements Of A Good Marketing Poster
Written by Lynne Saarte

A good marketing poster can do wonders for your business. If designed properly and placed in the right locations, a poster can bring in new customers and build loyalty among your existing customers. In fact, posters are among the most powerful and cost effective tools that a small business can use to increase its business.

There are many different types of posters. Walk into a movie theatre and you will see hundreds of examples. Walk down the street in a city and you will see hundreds more. In fact, there are as many posters as there are businesses that print them. But there are some elements that exist in every good poster. Here is a rundown of some of those elements for you to keep in mind as you design your next poster printing project.

Simplicity

Contrary to popular belief, a good poster is very simple. It has just one (or, at most, two) messages to convey to customers, and it does so with a minimal number of words. When designing a poster, your goal should not be to make your customers see several marketing messages. Instead, you want your customers to remember one message.

Topic Relation

Your poster has to relate to your business in some way for it to be effective. There is nothing wrong with using attention grabbing or unique images (see below) but they have to have something to do with your company. Otherwise, your customers might remember your poster, but not remember who made it.

Attractiveness

Obviously, your poster has to attract attention. Use images that will stand out in the area where you place your posters. Consider using striking images or pictures that will make everyone who sees your poster do a double take. Your goal here is to make a poster that stands out from all of the other ones out there. You want your company to win the "poster wars".

Uniqueness

Your posters also need to be unique. This is related to attractiveness, but is not quite the same. Your posters can be attractive, which is great, but not necessarily unique. If you can find a way to design posters that are both attractive and unique, they will be especially powerful tools for you.

Location

Perhaps the most important element of your posters is the locations in which you place them. You have to place your posters in areas where many of your target customers will see them. If you place them in areas where there are not many customers who need your product, you be wasting a tremendous amount of time and money. Placing them in the right locations, however, can lead to a dramatic increase in business performance.
