Do you own a small service business? If you do, then you should know that you can increase both your name and brand recognition locally in your geographic area if you have a solid Internet marketing plan in place. You can also gain exposure to a whole new set of potential clients throughout the world with the help of an effective online marketing plan.

Of course, it will be a synch to integrate an Internet marketing piece into an existing plan if you already have a business plan or vision that is written. On the other hand, it may not be that simple if you do not bother to commit anything to paper and carry your business and marketing plans in your head. Let me give you a few things that you need to consider if you want to make an effective online marketing plan for your business.

The first thing that you need to consider is the objective of the marketing plan. This means that you to know what you want to accomplish by using Internet marketing. Do you want find new clients or provide services and info to existing clients? Maybe you want to sell services or products or create an online community for your target market. These are just some questions that you need to reflect on in order to set the objectives for your plan. You should also keep in mind that having a goal and budget in mind will make your marketing more effective. This means that you have to decide on how much money to have to spend each month on your Internet marketing plan.

The next thing you need to consider is your competition. This is because you can strengthen your marketing message if you have an idea on where you stand among your competitors. It would be wise to do a keyword search for the terms someone might use to find your business online to find the URL's of your top 5 competitors. The next step is to find out just how popular and relevant their sites are. Checking their traffic ranking and finding out what other sites link to them will help you in this task. It would also be smart to discover if your competitors offer something unique and to find the gaps in the service or product that they are offering.

Finding a clearly definable target market that you can easily describe and locate is a better marketing strategy than just trying to marketing your service or product to everyone. Decide between targeting male and female markets. You also need to decide on the age group, industry, socio-economic group and other aspects. It is also important to consider how much money your customers make because it is important that you find a market that can easily afford your product or service.

Assessing your website is also a vital part of any Internet marketing plan. An effective website should be visually appealing, with one primary font for the text and a simple primary color scheme, along with an easy-to-navigate layout, and readily identifiable buttons to link to other pages in the site. It is also important that your content focuses on and address the problems of your visitors and how your product or service can help solve their problems. Detailing the benefits they'll gain from purchasing your product or service is more advisable than listing the features of your product or service. Try to remember that people rarely buy features because they buy benefits.

Do not neglect to present a clear call to action that is clearly shown on every page of your site. Your primary call to action in an online business should be getting the visitor's name and primary email address. You can do this by asking him subscribe to your ezine or by giving him access to a free ecourse, special report, audio recording, or ebook. It would also be advantageous to provide an abundance of readily available information to demonstrate your expertise. These include articles, blog posts, free downloads, giveaways, and contests.

These are just some of the things you need to consider in making an Internet marketing plan for your business. To summarize this article, you need to integrate your plan into the overall marketing plan/business vision that you have for your service business in order to conduct a successful online marketing campaign.
