Minicom introduces a new two-in-one power switch for power management/IP and remote environmental monitoring of data center racks

Minicom Advanced Systems, a leading innovator and manufacturer of KVM switches and KVM/IP access solutions for the data center environment, has begun delivery of the new Remote Power Switch (RPS).

The Remote Power Switch lets you power up, power down, and reboot up to 128 connected servers and devices from anywhere over the Internet, saving you the time and cost of visiting remote sites. There are three configurable modes of shutdown operations: instant shutdown, safe shutdown, and safe reboot. You can shutdown any outlet individually or all outlets at once.

Designed to help businesses leverage their IT investments, the Remote Power Switch also performs environmental monitoring of racks in the server room.

The environmentally aware power switch monitors temperature and humidity to protect your rack or server room from extreme, and possibly damaging, conditions. It can be configured to send alerts or to perform a power ON/OFF operation under specified conditions. For example, you can configure the power switch to turn on a fan if the temperature in the room exceeds a specified trigger.

‘The Remote Power Switch is part of a comprehensive remote management solution for the modern data center - the final touch to a complete remote access solution. It gives you the necessary functionality to complete remote operations that require you to reboot the server, complimenting the out of band remote access to servers and devices from your KVM switching systems," stated Benny Hayumi, Minicom's Product Manager.
