The installation process of broadband modem is classified into two steps by the computer repair experts. One is connecting the modem to the computer and the second is configuring the modem for Internet access. Make sure you have all the necessary equipment that are needed to connect the modem to your computer. You will need the modem, Ethernet cable, CD-ROM, instruction manual, telephone cord for ADSL modem and adapter. If you have all the equipment you can go on connecting the modem if anyone is missing you need to contact the manufacturer of the modem for the missing part. Computer repair experts suggest you to consult the manual to understand the function of the equipments that come with the modem. If you are using ADSL connection, you will need to connect the telephone cord to the line port for ADSL on the modem. No matter what Internet connection you use, the Internet port of your broadband modem will be connected to the CAT5 or CAT6 cable installed by the service provider. Now you will need to insert the Ethernet cable from any of the Ethernet port of the modem to the Ethernet or LAN port of the computer. You will now need to connect the power adapter to the modem. You will need to plug it on. Check that all the devices are connected before you start setting up the broadband modem. For setting up the broadband modem, you will need to open the modem's administrative site. For this you will need to open a web browser and on the address bar of the web browser you will need to type the URL of the modem's site. Consult the manual for the URL address. If you don't have this, you need to contact the modem manufacturer to get the URL address. Now you will need to login to the administrative site of the modem. You will need the username and password. You can find these on the manual. If you don't have these you will need to contact the manufacturer. After you login, you will need to choose the type of Internet connection you will like to have. There are four types of Internet connections available. Call your Internet Service Provider about what is best suitable for your system to set up. If you want to access the IP address automatically from the service provider, you can very well choose Dynamic IP Address for your Internet connection. You will be given a IP address when you access the Internet connection. If it is a dynamic IP, your IP address will change each time you connect to the net and a static IP is when you have the same IP when disconnect and reconnect to the Internet. If your Internet Service Provider gives you a static IP , you need to choose static IP. Now you will need to fill Subnet Mask, IP address, ISP Gateway Address, Primary and Secondary DSN Address. You will get these information from your service provider. Now you can finish the connecting by clicking on the option ‘finish'.
