Buying a duvet or a comforter is expensive, especially those that are made of quality materials like down or wool. This is the reason why it is important that you know how to properly care for your comforter. One way to protect your duvet from stain or dirt is by using a duvet cover.
Using a duvet cover is the easiest way to make your comforter last for a long time. You can afford to buy several covers for your comforter a few times in a year but you cannot afford to buy a duvet several times because it is not cheap. It is also the simplest way to enhance your bed's look. You can change your cover whenever you want and your bedroom will look as if it has undergone a major overhaul. After all, the bed is the main focus of a bedroom, and any change in it gets noticed easily.
Since the duvet cover protects the comforter, you also have to know how to properly take care of it. There are important things that you should know when it is time for you to clean your duvet cover. Here are some of them.
- Washing your duvet cover depends on the kind of material it is made of. The most common materials used to make covers for duvet is cotton or blends. You can wash these types of duvet covers the way you would wash your sheets. You can use a huge washing machine that can accommodate the size and weight of the cover. But if the cover is made of silk or woven fabric like your furniture throw, you have to take them to a professional dry cleaner. These materials are more sensitive and more expensive. You do not want to take your chances by washing them yourself because they might get damaged.
- Make sure that you read the manufacturer's instructions carefully. The instruction label will tell you if the cover should be taken to thy dry cleaners or if you can wash it yourself. And if you can do it at home, you will also be instructed whether to use gentle or normal setting in your clothes washer.
- Treat the stains, if there are any, before you wash the covers. These are for washable covers. Apply the stain remover on the stained spot and leave it for 5 to 10 minutes before washing it. Make sure that the stain remover is safe even for colored fabrics.
- When you wash the cover, it is important that you distribute its weight evenly inside the washer. Use a washing detergent that is safe for the type of fabric that your cover is made of. Use the warm water cycle setting in your washing machine.
- Wash the cover again if you can still see stains on the fabric. You have o do this if the cover has a heavy stain on it. Make sure that the cover is stain-free before putting it in the dryer. Use the dryer's lowest setting. If the sun is hot and the weather is good, you can hang the cover outside for that fresh, clean smell.
